I decided to try the peel-off lipstick trend myself. Waiting more than a month for shipping just wasn’t in the cards for me, so I took matters into my own hands and created a super easy YouTube tutorial for DIY tattoo lipstick with some serious staying power.
The key ingredient for making this peel-off lipstick is Elmer’s glue. It’s crucial to pick the bottle that says “safe, non-toxic” right on the label. Trust me, it’s the same glue we used back in preschool, so it’s safe. Anything else could be harmful, and that’s definitely not what we want.
Next up: food coloring. This is where the fun really begins. You can mix and match the colors to create your own perfect shade. All I used to mix the ingredients was a simple cotton swab, nothing fancy required.
Steps to Create Your Own Peel-Off Lipstick:

Mixing:
- Combine the glue and food coloring using the cotton swab. Experiment with different colors until you get a shade you love.
Testing:
- Before applying it to your lips, test the mixture on your wrist. You don’t want to find out you’re allergic to the dye after it’s already on your lips!
Application:
- Use a makeup brush to evenly apply a layer to your lips. As it dries, your lips will feel a bit tight—like you’re wearing a mask, but just on your lips.
Peeling Off:
- Once it’s completely dry, gently peel it off to reveal a vibrant stain that won’t fade, even in the summer heat.
